Plans & Elevations

Read the three views. Build the hidden shape.

🤔 How to play

  1. Each level gives you three drawings of a hidden shape made of cubes: the plan (looking down from above), the front elevation (looking from the front) and the side elevation (looking from the right-hand side).
  2. Build a shape on the baseplate that has exactly those three views. Tap a square to place a cube, tap the top of a cube to stack on it, or tap the side of a cube to build next to it.
  3. A tick on a drawing means your build matches that view. Match all three to solve the level.
  4. Different shapes can share the same three views, because a cube can hide behind taller ones. Any shape that matches counts. Some levels give stars for using the fewest or the most cubes possible, and the last six must be solved with the fewest.

Drag to turn the model, or use ↺ and ↻. To take a cube away, switch to - Erase, right-click or long-press. 👁️ Compare shades the squares your build is missing in amber and crosses out the extra ones. 💡 gives a hint; tap it again for a more exact one. On a keyboard, the arrow keys move a cursor over the baseplate, + or Enter adds a cube, − or Delete removes one, Q and E turn the view, T tilts it, C compares, Z undoes and H gives a hint. Nothing is saved: ticks and stars last only this visit.

Reading the drawings

The quick quiz shows a 3D model and three drawings: pick the plan, the front elevation or the side elevation, and the wrong ones explain themselves (a view from the back, a flipped plan…).

What it practises

Plans and elevations from GCSE maths: turning a 3D shape into its 2D views and back again, and reasoning about the fewest and the most cubes a set of views allows.
